I am a qualified classroom teacher (PGCE/QTS) rated Outstanding by the Institute of Education with twenty years’ experience working with young people. I tutor English, History, Humanities, and essay writing, including revision, homework, catching up, study skills and exam technique. I also teach specialist SEND curriculums and home learning focused on independence, skills, interests, motivation and re-engagement with education.
My teaching is sensitive and adaptive, tailored to the needs and personality of each student. I combine high expectations with patience, helping students strengthen their writing, subject knowledge, independence and exam confidence at a pace that suits their learning. Parents can expect regular feedback and reports identifying priorities and explaining progress.
I give particular attention to confidence, motivation and barriers to learning. I have experience supporting students with ASD, ADHD, processing disorders, OCD, epilepsy, cerebral visual impairment (CVI), chronic illness, adverse childhood experience (ACE), demand avoidance, EBSA, and other factors that can affect students’ confidence and access to schooling.
Emotional safety is central to my teaching. I create a calm, non-judgemental environment where students can make mistakes and ask questions. My approach is dialogic: understanding develops through discussion, questioning and explanation. Through ongoing informal assessment, I identify gaps and adapt my teaching accordingly. In GCSE English, for example, this might mean breaking essay writing into manageable steps before building towards confident independent work.
Academically, I have a first-class BA in History, an MA with Distinction in Social and Political Thought and am completing a PhD in Social Sciences. My experience spans SEND and PMLD provision, disability education, primary and secondary schools, further and higher education, the Brilliant Club and private tutoring, from KS2 through GCSE, A-Level and University.
