Hi, I’m Julie!

I am a Primary school teacher with over 25 years teaching experience, working in various

schools across Sussex. I have been a class teacher in EYFS, KS1 and KS2 and was the
phonics Lead teacher in 2 schools.
In 2010, I completed additional training to become a Reading Recovery Teacher and have
worked in this role, for the past 13 years. This has involved delivering individually tailored
interventions to support children on a 1:1 basis to improve reading, comprehension, and
early writing. I currently work part time in a school delivering interventions across KS1 and
KS2.
Alongside my work in school, I have been tutoring children from Reception to Year 6 for the
past 2 years in reading, phonics and maths. These tutor sessions have supported children to
become more confident in their learning either through specially planned sessions which fill
the gaps that a child may have in their learning, or following up from work in school that a
child has found difficult.
I love developing a good relationship with my students so that they feel able to ask when
they don’t understand and to discuss their learning, thus embedding their understanding. I
use a variety of practical resources and games to support my teaching and engage the
learners so that their learning is active, memorable and has an impact. Working as a tutor
and making a difference each to my students has been one of the most rewarding parts of
my job as a teacher.
